Inside SXSW: How AI Is Shaping the Future of Music

Acclaimed record label Cheerful Music recently took part in a major panel discussion at SXSW in Austin, Texas, one of the world’s leading events for music, technology, and culture. The appearance highlights the label’s growing influence in global music conversations and its commitment to bridging the Chinese music market with the West.

Founded by singer-songwriter and entrepreneur Snow J, Cheerful Music joined the East x West: Cross Cultural AI Trends in Music Production panel on March 16, supported by Rolling Stone UK. The discussion focused on one of the most important topics facing the industry today: the rapid rise of artificial intelligence in music creation and distribution.

As AI technology continues to evolve, markets like China are already seeing major shifts in how music is produced, shared, and experienced. From faster production workflows to virtual AI artists performing behind digital platforms, the global music landscape is entering a new and complex era.

The panel brought together key industry voices, including Vivian Wei, Vice President of Copyrights at NetEase Music, alongside Snow J and international electronic artist MKJ. Together, they explored how cross-cultural collaboration and AI innovation are reshaping the future of music and raising important questions about creativity, ownership, and artistic identity.

While AI opens doors to new possibilities, the discussion emphasized that human creativity, emotion, and authenticity remain at the heart of meaningful music. As technology advances, the value of genuine artistic expression may become even more important in defining what truly connects with audiences.

With its SXSW appearance, Cheerful Music continues to position itself at the forefront of global music innovation—helping lead the conversation on how technology and human creativity can coexist in the next chapter of the industry.
